(NEW HAVEN) – In a major new endorsement, UNITE HERE Local 34 today announced it was backing Erick Russell for State Treasurer. UNITE HERE represents 300,000 people across the United States and Canada in industries including hospitality, gaming, food service, manufacturing and more. Momentum continues to surge behind Erick Russell, the Connecticut Democratic Party-endorsed candidate who is backed by Congressman John Larson, House Speaker Matt Ritter, State Representative Robyn Porter, Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin, Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim, West Hartford Mayor Shari Cantor, and dozens of other statewide leaders, mayors, state representatives, state senators, and labor organizations.
Local 34 Vice President Elia Vollano said, “Erick clearly understands the struggles of working families, and his commitment to standing with works made him stand out among the candidates seeking the office of Treasurer. We are proud to join other labor and community organizations in supporting Erick for Treasurer.”
“I applaud UNITE HERE’s support of Erick Russell. I believe he is the right person at the right time to be Connecticut’s next Treasurer,” said Bob Proto, President of UNITE HERE Local 35.
“We need to fight for working people every day. As we grow our state pension funds and strengthen Connecticut’s finances, we also need to bring Main Street values to Wall Street, not the other way around. And we can do both, because to fight for a fairer economy is to deliver better returns, and to advocate for hardworking residents is to ensure our fiscal picture is robust,” said Treasurer Candidate Erick Russell. “It’s an honor to have the support of UNITE HERE, and it’s a privilege to have so much support for our campaign in every corner of the state. The momentum continues to build because supporters know what this campaign is about and share the belief that every working family struggling to get by deserves an opportunity at their own success story.”
Erick Russell is the endorsed candidate of the Connecticut Democratic Party who received overwhelming support at the state convention earlier this year. He’s received the endorsement of the Victory Fund, New Haven Rising, United Auto Workers Region 9A, and dozens of elected officials, organizations, labor unions and leaders across the state.
