New Haven, Conn - Following the approval of his grant for public financing, the Connecticut Democrats’ endorsed candidate for State Treasurer Erick Russell released the following endorsements for his campaign:

Congressman John Larson represents Connecticut’s 1st Congressional District and is the first Member of Congress to endorse in this Democratic Primary.

“Erick Russell’s story is one of humble beginnings, hard work, and possibility,” said Larson. “He grew up like I did in a working family, where he was taught the importance of helping others in need, and the potential of good government. As Connecticut’s next Treasurer, Erick will be an invaluable ally in our efforts to break down our nation’s wealth gap and ensure all Americans have the tools to invest and save. I am so proud to join the Connecticut Democratic Party, and dozens of other elected officials throughout my district, in endorsing Erick in the August 9th Democratic Primary.”

Congressman John Larson joins many other elected leaders in the 1st Congressional District who had previously announced their support for the Russell campaign, from Speaker of the House Matt Ritter, House Majority Leader Jason Rojas and many other state legislators, to Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin, East Hartford Mayor Mike Walsh, Bloomfield Mayor Danielle Wong, and other Mayors, First Selectman, and Democratic Town Committee Chairs. Larson is also joined by West Hartford Mayor Shari Cantor in endorsing Russell ahead of the Primary.

“Erick Russell has a proven track record of working with the state and municipalities as Bond Counsel, helping them responsibly manage debt, protect pensions, and build stronger, safer communities,” Mayor Cantor said. “And I know when it comes to being a fighter for us, he will be there. Erick secured the Democratic Party’s nomination after receiving overwhelming support from across the state at the Democratic Party’s Convention, and he’s continued to build support and momentum heading into the Primary. I have no doubt that Erick will stand up for us, and as Treasurer will use his office to combat climate change, protect our right to healthcare, hold gun manufacturers accountable, and continue to advocate for equality and human rights for all communities across our state. Erick Russell is the right candidate for State Treasurer and he will make our party stronger heading into this critical statewide contest.”

“I am grateful for Congressman Larson and Mayor Cantor’s endorsements of our campaign,” Erick Russell said. “These are leaders who know what is at stake this November, and understand the importance of strengthening our party and our ticket as we prepare for this crucial election where Connecticut’s progress is on the line. They join countless other elected officials in the 1st Congressional District and around the state who understand that people are struggling and are looking for elected leaders who understand government and have the professional and lived experiences to represent their voices in Hartford. I look forward to working with these distinguished public servants as we continue to build our team of support. This election is about the future of our state and what we can do when our party comes together.”

In addition to these endorsements and the endorsement of the Connecticut Democratic Party, Erick Russell has been endorsed by former Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman and State Comptroller Natalie Braswell. He also has been endorsed by the LGBTQ Victory Fund, with the recognition that he is on the cusp of being the America’s first openly-gay Black statewide elected official, and New Haven Rising, a leading community organization fighting for economic justice and progressive policy in New Haven.
